FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE — March 5, 2026
From: Mickey Wright, Mayor of Torrey

Our community is grieving today following the tragic deaths of three women in Wayne County yesterday. On behalf of the Town of Torrey, I extend my deepest condolences to the families, friends, and loved ones of the victims. This is a heartbreaking moment for our small, close‑knit community.

Thanks to the coordinated efforts of the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office, the Utah Department of Public Safety, and partner agencies across Utah, Arizona, and Colorado, a suspect has been taken into custody, and there is no ongoing threat to the public.

I want to acknowledge the professionalism and rapid response of law enforcement during yesterday’s multi‑state search. Their work brought clarity and safety back to our community during an extremely difficult and uncertain day.

As investigations continue, I ask all residents to give law enforcement the space they need to complete their work. Please avoid sharing unverified information and rely on official updates from the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office and Utah DPS.

Our community is strong. In the coming days, we will support one another, check on our neighbors, and ensure that those affected by this tragedy are not alone. The Wayne County School District will have counselors available when classes resume next week, and the Town of Torrey will coordinate with county partners to ensure additional support is available as needed.

We stand together today — in grief, in compassion, and in solidarity.

— Mayor Mickey Wright
Town of Torrey, Utah
